I know, I know – I must be crackers to have knitted with mohair yarn in the height of summer but I was just dying to finish a version of Aurora Lace Capelet in this gorgeous shade of Kidsilk Haze ever since I designed this pattern.
Kidsilk Haze isn’t the easiest yarn to knit with (and certainly not the easiest to rip back!!!!) but all the effort is worth it when it’s complete as this is just the softest, most delicate feeling cover-up ever. I love it!
I think if I knit it again in this yarn I’d add beads as this yarn is very lightweight and could do with the extra weight at the hem. Maybe adding beads to the picot bind-off would have worked particularly well. Gives me a good excuse to make a third version of this beauty!
Now I know I designed this as a pretty summer cover-up but now I’m thinking it would also make the most delightfully decadent bed-jacket??? I know that’s a totally ancient notion, but for those of us who read in bed – don’t you think this would make a fantastic shoulder cover-up in the colder months?

This is so beautiful! Mohair is lovely but I get so frustrated knitting with it; clearly worth it for those results.
I see what you mean about beading though; something small but sparkly at the bottom would look nice and, if it’s that light, weight it perfectly!

Thank you so much! Mohair is tricky to knit with but I’m so pleased I persevered as it does give a softness and that pretty “Halo effect” that you just can’t get from other fibres. If I give this pattern another go in this particular yarn I’m definitely going to try out beads, and as it’s my go-to summer cover-up pattern I’ll almost certainly be knocking out another version soon! (knits up loads quicker than you’d think too)
